Building Fire
Commerce Driver |
08/20/2010 -Companies 47,52,57,61,63,
R.I.T. 39 and R.I.T. 23 were dispatched to 90 Commerce drive, The Alloy
Surfaces building, for a reported building fire. Engine 47 arrived on
location first, and advised fire board that there was smoke coming from
the roof of the building. Engine 47 stretched a 150' section of 2 1/2 "
hose line in the ide door of the building. Truck 63 arrived second, and
received order to ladder the building, and send their crew to the roof.
Engine 63 arrived next, they dropped a supply line to engine 47, and
sent their crew to assist the interior crew from 47 with more hose line.
Engine 52 arrived fourth, and was sent to the rear of the building to
try to get a closer shot at the fire. Engine 52 sent their crew in the
back of the building, and found a closer area to attack the fire. 52's
crew stretched a 150' section of 1 3/4 " hose line in the back of the
building, and assisted with knocking down the fire. Tower 61 arrived
next, and staged by engine 52 a,d set up their ladder to the roof to
take a hose line to the roof of the building to hit the fire from there.
Engine 57 laid a supply line to engine 52 for water, and squirt 61
staged by the hydrant that engine 47 was hooked to. 47-9 assumed Alloy
Surfaces command, 47-12 was assigned interior command, 61-9A was
assigned man power command, 52-9 was assigned rear building command, and
63-9 was assigned roof command. At the 20 minute mark of the fire,
interior command advised scene command that the fire was out, and that
over haul was in progress. 47-9 placed the job under control, and had
the R.I.T. teams stand down, and go to the man power pool. Also at the
20 minute mark, command had all interior crews rotate out of the
building into rehab, and sent fresh crews into the building. Once the
over haul was complete, 47-9 and Chester township Car 1A investigated
the interior of the building, and the roof to try to determine the cause
of the fire. See fire marshals report for information.

Accident
Commodore Barry on Ramp from I95 South |
08/20/2010 - Companies 47 and 40were
dispatched to I95 Southbound onramp to the Commodore Barry Bridge.
Rescue 47 went responding, driven by S. Comisiak and under command of W.
Ladue, crew arrived on location. Rescue 40 was on location and
placed oil dry on a small fuel spill. Command was transferred from
40 to FF Ladue. 47-8 responded to the scene, driven by J. Muscella
and under command of M. Coale. Crews stayed on location and
assisted with traffic control and highway clean up. Once the
vehicle was removed from the highway, by Bob's Twin Oaks Towing, 47
command place the company available and returning. Rescue 47 and
47-8 returned to the station and company was placed off radio.

Multi Vehicle
Fire on Carter Avenue |
08/17/2010 - Companies 47 and 52 were
dispatched to West 14 th street and Townsend streets for multiple
vehicles on fire. Engine 47 was covering for station 61 at the time of
the dispatch, and made the response along with Truck 69. Engine 47
arrived on location and worked on extinguishing vehicle # 1, and truck
69 arrived on location and started to extinguish vehicle # 2. When Squad
52 arrived on location, their crew assisted both 47 and 69's crews with
extinguishments. Once both vehicle fires were extinguished, 47-9 placed
the situation under control. Both vehicle fires were suspicious in
nature. both appeared to have started on the exterior of each vehicle. 1
vehicle had fire on the front hood, the second vehicle had fire on the
rear trunk area. once the situation was under control, twin oaks towing
towed both vehicles, and 47-9 placed all units available.

08/17/2010 - Company 47 was
dispatched to 1661 Mill road, for a cover up assignment for station 61.
Canteen 47 was also dispatched to # 1 east 9 th street for the building
fire. Engine 47 made the response to station 61, and canteen ( 47-8 )
made the response to Marcus Hook.

08/15/2010 - Canteen 47 assisted
Lansdowne Fire Company at the 100 block of Plumstead Avenue for a
building fire. Crew arrived on location and setup refreshments and
snacks.

08/11/2010 - Companies 47 and 61 were
dispatched to 9th and Engle Street for a vehicle fire. 47-9 went direct
to the scene and report vehicle compartment involved. Rescue 47 went
responding, driven by S. Comisiak and under command of A. Sadler. Rescue
arrived on location and crew in full ppe and air pacs exited apparatus
and lead off with 1 3/4" 100 foot length trash line. Crew extinguished
fire, opened hood and doors to fully extinguish. 47-9 placed situation
under control and company available from scene. Iacona's towed the
vehicle, since the fire was on Chester's side of Engle Street. Tools
were restored on apparatus and tank was filled with water. Rescue 47
returned to station and company was placed off radio.

Trailer Fire on I95 Southbound |
08/10/2010 - Company 47 was dispatched
to I95 Southbound for a vehicle fire. 47-9A arrived and with the crews
from ENG83 and TW82 along with C11. 82-12 advised me of the situation he
told that the driver of the truck was having mechanical problems with
the truck he called his dispatch center he was told someone will be out
to assist. While he was waiting another driver was passing him, the
driver then ran to his truck and told him that his trailer was on fire.
The driver then un hooked the truck from the trailer. The driver didn't
no the trash was burning in the trailer. Once the fire was out all units
were available from the highway.

2nd Alarm
Building Fire on Price Street in Chester |
06/26/2010 - Canteen 47 was dispatched
on the 2nd alarm assignment to the 2600 block of Price Street in the
City of Chester for a building fire. Canteen 47 responded and
assisted with rehab and supplied refreshments for the crew on the scene.

Nathan Avenue in Brookhaven |
06/25/2010 - Companies 52, 47, 57, 63,
69, 50 and Medic 100 were dispatched to 3000 block of Nathan Avenue in
Brookhaven for a building fire. Company 52 arrived on location with
smoke showing from the second. Engine 47 went responding, driven by S.
Comisiak and under command of K. Marley. Engine 47 arrived on location
and crew assisted with ventilation and overhaul. Canteen 47 responded to
the scene, driven by S. Sadler, to assist with rehab.

Accident
Concord and Bethel Roads |
06/19/2010 - Companies 47, 52 and
M81-7 were dispatched to Bethel and Concord Road for an accident with
entrapment. Rescue 47 went responding, driven by S. Comisiak and under
command of J. Comisiak. 47-9A went direct to the scene. Upon arrival of
47-9A and Rescue 47, crews found a one vehicle accident. A Stroehmann
bread truck into a tree. The tree had fallen over top of the truck.
There was no entrapment and no injuries. 47-9A held with company 47 and
recalled the balance. Crews from Company 47 cut the branches of the
trees, then Bob's Twin Oaks Towing removed the truck, so crews could
finish taking the tree down. Crew also cleared the highway of debris
with help from Community Service personnel. 47-9A advised fire board to
contact Verizon and Comcast, as wires were down and disconnect from the
residence at 2128 Concord Road. After roadway was cleared of debris,
47-9A placed situation under control and company available. Rescue 47
returned to station and company was placed off radio.

Injuries Commodore Barry Bridge on Ramp |
06/05/2010 - Companies 47, 68 amd
M82-7, M83-7 and M100 were dispatched to I95 Southbound on the Commodore
Barry Bridge on-ramp for an accident with injuries. Rescue 47 went
responding with S. Comisiak driving and under command of J. Comisiak,
with a crew of 3. Rescue 47 arrived on location and found a one
vehicle accident, which was a motorcycle, paramedics already had the
driver on the backboard. Crew from Rescue 47 assisted medics with
the packaging and loading of the patient into the ambulance. 47-9
held response to Rescue 47. Crew then washed down the highway of
fluids and debris. 47-9 placed situation under control and company
available. Rescue 47 returned to station and company was placed
off radio.

04/28/2010 - Member of Company 47
participated in an equipment demonstration of the Genesis Tool System.
Extrication tools were used to cut a car and a pick up truck apart.

Accidentnt
Commodore Barry Bridge On Ramp |
04/08/2010 - Companies 47,52, and
medic 81-7 were dispatched to I-95 North bound, at the Commodore Barry
bridge on ramp, for an over turned tractor trailer with a fuel spill.
47-12 arrived on location with a tractor trailer completely on it's
driver's side. 47-12 requested the spill unit out of company 50 to
assist at the scene, because of the unknown chemical that was being
transported by the vehicle. Squad 52 arrived on location next, and
placed an 1/34 " hose line into service in case of any rupture or
explosion. Rescue 47 staged on the opposite side of the truck that squad
52 did, and placed an 1 3/4 " hose line into service as well. 47-9 was
the O.I.C. on rescue 47, and found the transport papers on the inside
drivers area of the cab of the truck, along with a crew from company 52,
to identify the material being transported. The transport papers
identified the material as Titanium Dioxide slurry. The material was
being transported by Schneider National bulk carriers from E.I. DuPont
in Edgemoor delaware to Valspar corporation in Lebanon Pa. There was
approximately 1,800 gallons of the white liquid substance inside of the
transport container. 47-12 assumed bridge command, and with the help of
47-9 and 29-29 , notified personal at Chem Trec, E.I. DuPont, and the
county HazMat. team. County HazMat, and the county haz mat coordinator
did not make the response to the scene, advising that the material was a
non-explosive or highly flammable substance. Representatives from
Schneider National Bulk carriers made the response to the scene with two
additional trucks to off load the substance from the over turned truck.
this process to several hours. E.I. Dupont sent 3 representatives to the
scene whom help with the off loading of the material, as well as making
sure that the emergency crews on the scene knew exactly what hazards the
chemical presented. Car - 99 ( Joe locks ) Delaware county fire marshal
was on the scene to over see the situation. Crews on the scene managed
to off load approximately 1,300 gallons of the Titanium Dioxide slurry,
before they were not able to get any more of the substance out do to the
angle of the truck. Twin oaks towing was on scene to upright both the
tractor, and the trailer on to it's wheels, and they felt comfortable
with the amount of substance that was removed from the vehicle to
upright it with the remaining 500 gallons still inside. Once crews on
the scene were able to get the vehicle upright again, the truck involved
in the accident and the debris that came from it were taken to twin oaks
towing yard, and all fire units were placed available.
04/04/2010 - Companies 47, 68, M100,
M817 were dispatched to I95 Northbound for a accident with injury. M100
went on location and advised fire board that the vehicle was on its roof
and there was one hand injury. M817 went on location and transported the
patient to CCMC 681 along with RE47 arrived on location Bobs twin Oaks
was notified for one to go.Once the vehicle was up righted the crew from
681 swept up the debris that was on the highway while RE47 crew
collected information. Once the vehicle was removed from the highway 47
and 68 was available from the scene.

Building Fire
Nate Ellis Drive |
03/21/2010 - Companies 47, 52, 57, 63,
61, and R.I.T. 39 were dispatched to the 1200 block of Nate Ellis Drive,
for a building fire. 47-9 went responding, and was advised by fire board
that the police were on location with an electrical outlet on the
outside back wall that was on fire, but that the fire was out. Rescue 39
arrived on location and confirmed the police report. Truck 63,Engine 47
and 47-9 all arrived next. 47-9 conferred with the crew from Rescue 39
about the situation. 47-9 was also advised that a fire extinguisher was
used on the fire by the police department. When the situation was under
control, 47-9 held the response to company 47. 47-9 also conferred with
the resident about what happened. She stated that she had opened up the
kitchen window, to let air in on a nice day, and smelled smoke inside
shortly afterward. She and son investigated through the house, and found
the smoke to be coming from the outside of the home. Her son opened up
the back door to the home, and saw a fire just outside the backdoor
along the wall. The resident got her self and all of her kids out of the
house, and called 911. Fire department personal found an electrical
outlet on the outside of the home where the fire had started. The
electrical outlet was completely burned out, as was the siding of the
home, and the ply wood underneath of it. 47-9 notified the Delaware
County housing authority to make the response to the scene, their
arrival took about 45 minutes. Once the housing authority arrived on
scene, 47-9 explained the situation to them, and company 47 returned
available. The Delaware County Housing authority was going to be
remaining on location for the repairs to the home.

Accident on
Commerce Drive |
03/03/2010 - Companies 47, 68, 52 and
45-7 were dispatched to 5 N. Commerce Drive for an accident with
injuries. Police went on location reporting entrapment. 47-12 went on
location shortly after reporting there was confinement not entrapment, 2
vehicle accident, 1 box truck and 1 tractor trailer. All victims
were removed from trucks. 45-7 transported the driver to the
hospital while 68-1 and Rescue 47's crews cleaned up the debris while
the tow truck took care of pulling the trucks apart and moved the
damaged one. Apparatus then went returning and available. Rescue
47 returned to station and company was placed off radio.

Building Fire
on Commerce Drive |
02/26/2010 - Companies 47, 52, 57, 63,
40 and 61 were dispatched to 121 N. Commerce Drive for a fire alarm.
47-12 went direct to the scene and found smoke showing from the rear
left door of the building. 47-12 advised fire board to upgrade the
assignment to a building fire, which added RIT 23 and RIT39 to the
dispatch. Crews from 63, 61, and 40 entered the building with an
uncharged 1 3/4 hand line. Engine 52 dropped and charged a 5" line from
the hydrant to ladder 63. Rescue 47 went responding and arrived on
location, driven by S. Comisiak and under command of D. Evans. Crew
assisted with interior operations and assisted the fire marshal as
needed, once investigation began. Interior crew found that the employees
had extinguished the fire that was caused by a nitrogen tank explosion,
with 8 fire extinguishers, but the area was charged with smoke from a
machine catching on fire. Interior crews worked on ventilation, as well
as taking gas meter inside to check levels. Quint 52 was staged at the
front of the building and crew went to the roof to open any hatches to
assist with ventilation. 47-12 asked fire board for a fire Marshall.
Chester Township Car 1 and 2 were both unavailable. Since Brookhaven Car
1 was on location, he did the investigation, please see his report and
findings. 47-12 placed situation under control and held with Ladder 63,
Rescue 47 and Tower 61. After investigation was complete and companies
on scene were wrapped up, 47-12 placed company 47 returning and
available. Rescue 47 returned to station and company was placed off
radio.

Building Fire
on Elson Road |
02/16/2010 - Company 47 was dispatched
to 1300 block of Elson Rd for wires. 47-9 went responding and arrived on
location and investigated. Upon his investigation 47 had not put a truck
on the street and due to the deck burning 47-9 asked for the next due to
be added on the assignment. Tac 57 responded. Along with Rescue 47 which
was under the command of J. Bobak and was told to stage at the alley way
at Elson and Worrilow Rd. The crew of the Tac and the Rescue contained
the burning deck in check until Peco arrived and secured the power. The
crew the extinguished the rest of the smoldering with a PW. 47-9 placed
all units available and 1322 was not going to have power until they have
some one come out to fix it.

Assist on Powell Road |
02/10/2010 - Company 47 was dispatched
to 1344 Powell Road to assist the ambulance. Do to extreme weather
conditions, crew remained at the station while, J. Comisiak and H.
Dillman went direct to the scene. They assisted with shoveling of the
walkway so the ambulance crew could get the patient out of the residence
safely. Once patient was in the ambulance, J. Comisiak and H. Dillman
returned to the station.

Alarm on Concord Road |
02/09/2010 - Companies 47, 52, 57, 61,
63 and M81-7 were dispatched to 2500 Concord Road for a fire alarm.
47-9 went direct to the scene. Rescue 47 went responding, driven
by S. Comisiak and under command of H. Dillman. 47-9 advised fire
board that the crematorium was actively burning and the smoke alarm went
off and the workers were having trouble resetting the alarm. 47-9
advised incoming apparatus to reduce speed. Rescue 47 arrived on
scene and crew advised 47-9 to have additional apparatus stage on
Concord Road due to the slippery conditions on the road in the cemetery.
Crew from Rescue 47 entered building and assisted with ventilation of
smoke and resetting the alarm. 47-9 placed situation under control
and companies available. Rescue 47 returned to station and company
was placed off radio.

Fire on Bethel Road |
02/09/2010 - Companies 47, 68 and 52
were dispatched to 2730 Bethel Rd at the Charter School for a vehicle
fire. Fire board reported it is in the parking lot. 47-9a went on
location and held to rescue 47. PD had extinguished the fire.
Rescue 47 was responding, driven by J. Comisiak and under command of B.
McCaney. Crew made sure fire was out and that there was no extension in
the car. After all fire was extinguished Rescue 47 went returning and
available. The owner of the car had called for a private tow.

Assist on Albert Road |
02/06/2010 - Company 47 was dispatched
to 1100 Albert Road to assist the ambulance with a person in respiratory
distress. Rescue 47 went responding, driven by J. Comisiak and
under command of B. Belgrave. Crew arrived on location and
assisted with carrying the equipment to and from the ambulance, lifting
the patient onto the stretcher and placing the patient in the ambulance
once that was done, RE47 was available from the scene. RE47
returned to the station and company 47 was placed off radio.
02/06/2010 - Companies 47,
52, 57, 63, RIT 39 and M45-7 were dispatched to 3912 Elson Road for a
building fire. Rescue 47 went responding, driven by J. Comisiak and
under command of D. Ladue. 47-9A, as well as 47-9B, went responding
directly to the scene. 47-9A met with 63-9B, he told 47-9A that the fire
was put out with a Purple K extinguisher. 47-9A then met with the home
owner she told him that her son was cooking with grease, he put oil in
the pot, the grease then over flowed, he then picked up the pot and put
the pot in the sink with running water. The home owner then hit
the stove with the extinguisher. 47-9A then held the assignment to RE47,
RE63 and Utility 63 and recalled the balance. The home owner then asked
if we can check the stove for a gas odor just to be sure everything was
off, once that was done RE47 was available from the scene. RE47
returned to the station and company 47 was placed off radio.

Assist on Elson Road |
02/06/2010 - Company 47 and medic 45-7
were dispatched to 3900 block of Elson Road for an injured
subject. Rescue 47 went responding, driven by A. Sadler and under
command of J. Comisiak, and arrived on location at the same time
as medic 45-7. Crews had heavy snow and ice conditions for the
weather. Rescue 47's crew assisted the medic with patient care,
and returned available once the medic was en route to the hospital.

Assist on W. 14th Street |
02/06/2010 - Company 47 and Medic 81-7
were dispatched to 2300 block of W. 14th Street for a head injury after
a fall. Rescue 47 went responding, driven by J. Heidin and under command
of D. Ladue. 81-7 transported and recalled Rescue 47 as they arrived on
location.
01/29/2010 - Companies 47 and 68 were
dispatched to 63 Concord Road for an accident with injuries. One vehicle
accident into a bridge. Blue Chrysler Sebring. 29-27 has all driver
information. Driver transported to CCMC by 81-7. Rescue 47 went
responding, driven by A. Sadler and under command of S. Wiegand.
Crew arrived on location, along with crew from 68 and oil dry was placed
on the roadway. Roadway was cleared of debris. 47 command placed
situation under control and companies available. Rescue 47 returned to
station and companies available.

Accident
I95 Southbound at Engle Street Overpass |
01/17/2010 - Companies 47, 68 and M81-7
were dispatched to I95 Southbound at Engle Street for an accident with
injuries. 47-9 went responding direct to the scene. 29 cars were on
location advising the accident is in the City of Chester, the vehicle is
on top of the barrier between north and south bound lanes. Fire board
advised 47-9 of findings, he then advised to add the City of Chester to
the response. Rescue 47 was responding, driven by S. Comisiak and under
command of H. Dillman. 47-9 advised them to entered at the exit ramp of
Commodore Barry Bridge to Concord Road. Rescue 47 arrived on location
and crew placed oil dry on the highway and swept the highway while
awaiting arrival of the tow truck. Two patients were taken to CCMC via
M81-7 and M83-7. One patient with leg pain and the other with back pain.
Tow truck arrived and cleared the vehicle from the highway. Crew from
Rescue 47 stood by with fire extinguisher while vehicle being removed.
Chester command placed situation under control and companies available.
Rescue 47 returned to station and company was placed off radio.

"FIRST
CALL FOR 2010" - Investigation - Elson Road |
01/01/2010 - Companies 47, 52, 57 and
M45-7 were dispatched to the 1300 block of Elson Road an investigation.
Homeowner was reporting an odor from the exhaust fan in the kitchen.
Company 52 arrived on location first, with 52-9 as command. After
further investigation, 52-9 advised 47-9 to hold with Engine 57, Quint
52 and 47. 47-9 made recommendation to fire board. Crews investigated
and found a bird's nest in the exhaust fan in the kitchen. Engine 47 was
responding, driven by Dave Evans and under command of S. Evans. Engine
47 arrived on location and shortly after placed situation under control
and companies returning and available. Engine 47 returned to station and
company was placed off radio.
The year 2009 brought many things to
Chester Township Fire Company. Great relationships with other fire
companies and emergency agencies. New brothers and sisters to our
fire company and hopes for a safe and trustworthy team for 2010.
